CCMAU commentary on 2006/07 performance

GNS Science had good financial performance for 2006/07 with revenue of $51.0 million, up from $46.0 million in 2005/06.  The company’s net profit of $1.4 million was also an increase from its 2005/06 result.  GNS Science has experienced particularly good commercial revenue growth in areas such as natural hazard risk assessment and mitigation, and oil and gas exploration.

The company has continued its excellent work to develop the sustainable use of New Zealand’s resources including research to support greater geothermal energy use and carbon sequestration.  The company has also played a key role in New Zealand’s case to the United Nations Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf for an expanded exclusive economic zone (EEZ).  If approved, the expanded EEZ will result in a greater area of New Zealand ownership of petroleum, mineral and other resources
